Playdough Recipe

Playdough is quick, inexpensive and easy to make – Honestly!

The Pre-School Learning Alliance recommends playdough to be changed weekly. It is something that all parents can do to help the staff – besides, you haven’t lived until you’ve made playdough!

We ask the playdough to be made in various colours and in multiples of four.

When it is your turn to make playdough please bring it along on the Monday morning of the week nominated, For any further help or questions please do not hesitate to ask a member of staff.

Many Thanks for your help.

Ingredients for one batch – please make four for pre-school quantity.

230g / 2 cups plain flour
450ml / 2 cups water (add food colouring to it)
225g / 1 cup salt
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
2 tablespoons cooking oil
Smell optional e.g. vanilla/ almond/ mint essences

Mix all the ingredients in a large saucepan and cook over a medium heat stirring all the time. Please do not leave. Remove from heat when it all binds together in a large ball and comes cleanly away from the sides of the pan. This will not take long. Allow to cool slightly, then knead for a few minutes – it should be pliable and not sticky. When completely cooled, wrap in clingfilm or plastic bag, store in container in fridge until ready to bring to pre-school.
