The Sessions
Once all the children have arrived a wide selection of activities and equipment is already set up so that the children have freedom of choice and can select what they would like to do. It is nice to move around the various activities so that you can see what the children are doing and learning from the experience.
We use the EYFS framework using the themes spring, summer, autumn and winter and we will then diversify into other areas according to the individual needs of the children, so staff may allocate you specific activities to take part in depending on what is being carried out in the session.
During the session names need to be written on artwork/creations using upper and lower case letters; children may need help with aprons etc.
We encourage healthy eating so fruit etc. is offered to children. Milk and water are available, or children can bring in their own drinks. It is useful if you can help to clear and disinfect tables before snack time, then to clear and wash up afterwards.
At the end of the session it is helpful if you can stay later (till 12.30), but we know this is not always possible. Paint pots need wiping, lids and brushes need washing, general tidying up, returning items to correct places etc.
Helping at Pre-School
We would like to encourage you to try taking a turn on the Parent Help Rota. Helping out for a few sessions each term will give you an insight into how the pre-school works and also provides extra assistance to staff. It is usually lots of fun and we welcome parents, grandparents etc. Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate younger siblings.
As we are a small pre-school we do rely on regular helpers and generally ask for each carer’s help a couple of times each term, although we understand this is not possible for all parents for a number of reasons. The rota is placed on the notice board so you can choose the days you would like to help.
Activities vary from day to day but overleaf are a few ideas of things you can do during the session. Obviously you cannot do everything – just do what you are comfortable with and what your child will ‘allow’ you to do. Please ask if you have any questions – we are more than happy to answer. We welcome any suggestions or ideas that you may have and if you want to get more involved, why not consider joining the committee! |
